    Unable to run scandisk in Windows XP :(

    Lately I have been recieveing errors on bootup whenever I choose to scan my harddrive that says that it is unable to have open direct disk access. Does anyone have any tips, fixes or suggestions? Thanks


    More Information:
    1. As you have found out, running scandisk with Windows fully booted can take a long time
    2. I have run scandisk in Windows on the FAT32 partition to make sure there weren't any real filesystem problems and scandisk did not find anything
    3. Running Scandisk in Windows uncovers nothing more remarkable than a few lost clusters

    apparently the problem was fixed on its own


    More Information:
    1. Scandisk detected an invalid long filename entry on this drive but was unable to fix it
    2. Just like you periodically get your oil changed in your car, you should run Scandisk and Defrag now and then, to keep everything running smoothly
    3. I haven't used 98 for a while, but if memory serves me correct, isn't there an option to NOT run scandisk when windows attempts to start? Then

    5. I have done the usual: scandisk in DOS first, then opened up in Windows
