    Taskbar Toolbars are Lost at Startup

    Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize (More info?)

    Toolbars that I add to the Taskbar are not retained after

    I restart the computer. These include things like

    the "Quick Start" toolbar and if I add "My Computer" as a

    toolbar.

    Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    I've tried selective startup and can't find any program

    that might be causing this.

    More Information:
    1. I've lost my Windows Taskbar how do I get it back? My Taskbar moved to the left, top, or right side of the screen
    2. The Toolbars tab, shown in Figure E, is completely new to the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, and displays the same list of toolbars that
    3. As well, I should state that before this problem with toolbars disappearing each time I reboot happened I lost two without any reason I could find
    4. After installing Windows XP Service Pack 3, you will find the “Address†option in right-click Windows Taskbar – Toolbars is missing from the available
    5. Did you right click on the Taskbar> Toolbars> CHECK 'Quick Launch? What did you do before these went missing? Update? What? Install/uninstall? What?
    6. Irrespective of whether the 'Toolbars' option is there or not, boot straight back to normal mode, then right-click on the taskbar again to see if the QLB can now be enabled

    Hi,

    If Method 1 does NOT solve your problem, please proceed to Method 2.

    The solution involves editing the registry. Please read Microsoft's

    warning BEFORE using regedit.

    WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that

    may require you to reinstall. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

    Note: I suggest you save the registry settings befor making any changes.

    First select the branch (eg: HKCU), then from the menu select File ->

    Export. Give a name and save the file. To restore boot to safe mode and

    double click the file you have saved and reboot the system to normal mode.

    Method 1: (Saving taskbar settings)

    =========

    1. Start -> Run

    2. In the Run dialog box type "Regedit" and press enter key

    3. Navigate to this key and see if the following DWORD value exists with

    the value of '0' exists.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explore

    r

    Value Name : NoMovingBands

    Value Type : REG_DWORD

    Value Data : 0

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explore

    r]

    Value Name : NoMovingBands

    Value Type : REG_DWORD

    Value Data : 0

    4. Exit Registry editior

    5. Restart the system for the changes to take

    Method 2: (Save settings on Exit)

    =========

    1. Start -> Run

    2. In the Run dialog box type "Regedit" and press enter key

    3. Navigate to this key and see if the following DWORD value exists with

    the value of '0' exists.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explore

    r

    Value Name : NoSaveSettings

    Value Type : REG_DWORD

    Value Data : 0

    4. Exit Registry editior

    5. Restart the system for the changes to take

    Hope this helps ......

    More Information:
    1. If I right click on the taskbar, then click on toolbars, the menu that follows is greyed out
    2. Put 'er there: To add the Links toolbar to the taskbar, right-click the taskbar, choose Toolbars, and select Links on the resulting menu
    3. If you don't see the QLT on your taskbar, right-click an empty spot on your taskbar and select toolbars->Quick Launch
    4. Teatimer should not automatically stop the applications that are normally in your taskbar from being added to startup if they are not in your black & white list
    5. Right click on the Windows Taskbar, and on the drop up menu that pop ups click on the Toolbars
    6. The users do not have the toolbars to disable this themselves so I was wandering if there's a way I can code this into the startup form? Any help would me much appreciated
    7. So, all we can hope now is that you will have found, somewhere above, a successful fix for your lost taskbar
    8. This restriction is used to remove all the toolbars, including Quick Launch, from the taskbar
