Fark you Soundstorm!

ok, i have been having some problems with my sound on my new computer. it takes FOREVER to load the start up sound for windows and the sound icon in the taskbar. I'm talking 3-5 minutes. It never did this before and it is brand new (home built.) I tried to run Soundstorm.exe and windows couldnt find it. So i looked in add/remove programs and it wasnt there. It uninstalled itself WTF! So i went to windows update and saw an update for soundstorm and downloaded and installed it. I restart, wait 3-5 minutes only to find out it DIDN'T install. So then i try getting the latest soundstorm drivers from nVidia.com, install them and then restart. It works and I am so happy. then today i restart and they are gone again! WTH! this is starting to **** me off. somebody help me please, i don't want to reformat.

what HD or controller card (if any) you're using? similar stuff used to happen to me (random corruption/deletion within XP), and it was the POS IDE/RAID controller card (Sil-0680) that was to blame..

so i'm leaning towards (in consecutive order)

a) bad drivers.. download again..
b) HD corruption..
c) your soundcard is fubared. get a PCI one.

I'm using the IDE to SATA convertor on a 60gb WD drive. i also have a 10gb IBM drive on the master IDE channel. im using the built in Silicon image RAID controller with the latest drivers. I will try to download the drivers again, i hope they work this time
