    Error checking won't work

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize (More info?)

    I have XP Home.

If I go into My Computer and right-click the C drive and choose properties

and then choose Tools and then Error-Checking, and then select automatically

fix file system errors and scan for and attempt bad sector recovery, it says

it can't do this because certain files are active. It allows me to set it to

work on the next boot up. I did that.

But now every time I boot up, it tries but says it can't do any checking as

my file system is NTFS. It then says access denied and continues to boot.

So, if I can't use the program, how can I remove it from trying to work

    every time I boot up???

I looked at the startup under msconfig but I didn't see anything (but I'm

not sure) pertaining to error checking.

Are you running third party firewall such as zone alarm?

If so I can provide one ZA answer that worked for me - in ZA:

You can go into ZoneAlarm (ZA) 5, go to the overview tab then preferences

    UNcheck the PROTECT ZA CLIENT

That is what is protecting your firewall from malware and locking the hard

    drive from a scan

Do the chkdsk then follow same steps and reenable for max protection
