that's not true.
i haven't heard that all of hl2 data files were stolen too..so everything below is based on that..
i doubt anybody would be able to build complete hl2 game on what's released.
cheating could be a problem..since cheaters will have source to look at.
if source code and server code was leaked, valid cdkey generators could be an issue, which will really hurt HL2 retail sales.
"source" code theft shouldn't effect retail sales since Avg Joe won't be able to do anything with it.
obviously any developer will be extremely stupid to use that stolen code in their game instead of offically buying it.
i doubt any developer will even use parts of that source. however Valve lost any innovative edge they might have.
other developers won't use that code, but they will get an idea of how some things are done...i think that will improve gaming in general.
i can garantee you that valve will not release source code as open source. if you want to develop for HL2 for free, make mods.
and i highly doubt that UHL2 will have any momentum since once again, if you want to work w/ HL2 w/o hound-dogs going after you, just make HL2 mod. you will get offical support, and won't have rest of the world going after you
I have, on my computer, the necassarry files, expect for the rest of the source, to make a complete UHL2.
I personally am not going to do such a thing - I've been a huge fan of Valve since they were around, and have had the pleasure of meeting Newell and others in real life.
THe HL2 "Beta" has most of the models and textures, along with the files needed to make maps, import models, etc.
The Map Source Leaks have the necasarry info to learn how to make HL2 maps
The Patch leak shows that patching is quite simple
If the full source code is leaked, then there's the code files needed to create new things.
This anonymous leaker was very thurough, I very highly doubt he left anything out.
You definately can create a full game based on what's here.
The average Joe wouldn't need the source.
Modding is not the same.
Hound dogs have never been a big concernt o the warez community, otherwise it wouldn't grow so rapidly.
You really missed my point completely.
